There will be no talks on Wednesday afternoon. We will not organize a common social event, but here is a list of suggestions of possible activities for this free afternoon.
- Go to the top of the Puy-de-Dôme. The Puy-de-Dôme is a volcano that can be easily reached from Clermont-Ferrand. It is part of a chain of volcanos listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To go there, you can take a bus from Clermont: detailed information can be found here. The tickets for this bus are the same as for the city buses in Clermont. This bus will take you to a station, from where you can take a train to the top of the volcano and enjoy the beautiful view of the region. It is also possible to walk from the station to the top; see here for details.
- Visit Clermont-Ferrand. In particular the city comprises museums (Musée Bargoin, Musée Lecoq, Musée d'Art Roger-Quillot, Hôtel Fontfreyde - Centre photographique), public gardens (Jardin Lecoq, Parc Montjuzet), and churches (Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, Basilique Notre-Dame-du-Port). More information and suggestions can be found here or at the tourist information center.
- If you want to go for a walk or run, you can go to Parc Montjuzet or try this trail. From the campus, you can also reach the (mostly demolished) castle of Montrognon or the Puy de Chomontel.
- If you like swimming pools (just for relaxation, not for sports) and spas, you might try to go to Royatonic.
