We consider a family of scalar conservation laws on a star-shaped network and their vanishing viscosity approximations. At the parabolic level the equations are coupled by transmission conditions at the node which do not impose continuity of the unknown. The sequence of approximate solutions converges to a weak solution of the original problem. However the limit differs from the weak solution we obtain when implementing vanishing viscosity with a continuous coupling. The results are part of an ongoing research project in collaboration with B. Andreianov (Tours) and G. M. Coclite (Bari)
