We explore some typical questions regarding a class of semilinear parabolic PDEs, often used as models for population dynamics in mathematical biology. For instance: given an initial population distribution, does it survive or die out ? If it survives, how quickly does it spread ? We begin by an introduction to the KPP equation, then move on to an overview of different models; some classical, some new.
