The talk will cover local systems of geometric origin, and how one can use motives and Tannakian methods to study them. I will talk about how to show exactness of a motivic fundamental sequence, and how to reconcile the sheaf theoretic and Tannakian perspectives on the notion of geometric origin. In order to explain that, I will have to talk a bit about relative unipotent completions of affine group schemes.
