Families of G-Curves, Monodromy, and Tannaka Groups

Maximality results for the monodromy of families of algebraic varieties are widely studied in algebraic geometry. In this talk, we study the monodromy group of families of Galois G-coverings of curves. The action of the Galois group G on cohomology induces a decomposition of the associated variation of Hodge structures. Under suitable assumptions on this decomposition, we discuss results on the maximality of the algebraic monodromy group. We also present ongoing work exploring the relationship between this group and the Tannaka group associated with sheaf convolution on a single fiber of the family.
