An origami torus is a finite union of
triangles in space which makes an embedded
topological torus, such that the sum of the angles
around each vertex is 2 Pi. Origami tori are
intrinsically flat, and for a long time people
wondered about the fewest number of triangles
(or, equivalently vertices) needed to make one.
In this talk i will explain my
fairly recent result that you can build an origami torus with
8 vertices but not with 7. I will also discuss the
state of the art on this question, highlighting even
more recent results that I am involved in. The
talk will have some nice computer demos.
