In this presentation, we will explore some properties of a nonlinear diffusion equation: the porous media equation. After having physically motivated it, we will present some fundamental properties distinguishing it from other linear diffusion equations such as the heat equation. We will then see how a gradient flow structure in the Wasserstein space and a change of variable allow for a better understanding of the long-term behavior of solutions.
