Motivic homotopy theory applies methods from algebraic topology to algebraic geometry, providing a suitable framework, via the category of motivic spectra, for studying various cohomology theories of algebraic varieties. In this talk, I will briefly review some results about the structure of motivic spectra over the complex numbers. I will then turn to the real setting, which is richer and less well understood. In particular, I will define the category of real isotropic motivic spectra and describe its cellular subcategory in a purely topological way.
