Burnett's conjecture in general relativity.

In this talk I will review the literature on Burnett's conjecture in general relativity, which relates vacuum spacetimes to kinetic ones. We will highlight the connections between Burnett's conjecture and other PDEs techniques such as geometric optics or compensated compactness. These connections will illustrate the subtle structure of the Einstein equations, between rigidity and flexibility. It will also be the occasion to pay tribute to Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat (who passed away in February 2025 at the age of 101) and her pioneer work on high-frequency gravitational waves.
