We consider the problem of extending geodesics in the Wasserstein space, i.e. the space of probability measures endowed with the quadratic Wasserstein distance. In particular, we focus on a variational model we recently introduced as a natural extension of the midpoint formula for geodesics. We discuss several properties of this model, including an equivalent convex formulation. We begin with the case where the underlying space is Euclidean and, time permitting, move to more general geodesic spaces. This talk is based on joint works with Thomas Gallouët and Andrea Natale.
