Veech groups of finite abelian covers of the Chamanara surface

The Chamanara surface $X$ is an especially interesting translation surface. It has finite area but infinite genus and a wild singularity and its Veech group $\mathrm{\Gamma }(X)$ is almost the free group in two generators. The Veech group of any cover of $X$ is contained in $\mathrm{\Gamma }(X)$. We classify the finite abelian covers whose Veech group is of finite index in $\mathrm{\Gamma }(X)$.
