The package-builder's complaints: evolution of R packges optimx and nlsr

par Prof. John Nash

Europe/Paris
Description

The talk is a relatively non-technical review of the objectives and evolution,  over approximately half a century, of nonlinear least squares and function  minimization tools, most recently in R. The issues of scientific software  are evolving to reflect the widening interests of users, with simultaneous  diminution of their mathematical expertise related to the underlying algorithms. The speaker will be happy to answer questions, and can demonstrate some of the ways the developer must address changing needs of the user base.
