"On growth of groups and complexity of their actions"

The talk is joint work with Laurent Bartholdi and Tianyi Zheng. We describe a new method of estimating growth of groups using complexity of their actions and geometry of the graphs of action (a.k.a. Schreier graphs). Unlike the classical "strong contraction" argument for groups acting on rooted trees, this method is applicable to many examples of simple groups of intermediate growth.
