Description
The Bott index is an index of a couple of unitary matrices in relation with their approximability with a couple of commuting unitaries. The index is conveniently applied to many body systems defined on a 2-torus by bounded, short ranged and gapped Hamiltonians and shown to be equivalent to the 2-Chern number. The use of the index to the study of the topology of time-driven systems is discussed in a model-independent fashion.
