The talk will present an introduction to affine Lie algebras and describe an important class of representations for them, the so-called integrable hightest weight modules. The talk is for non-experts. I will assume the basic structure and representation theory of semisimple finite-dimensional complex Lie algebras, but no prior knowledge of affine Lie algebras.
