In a series of joint projects with T. Blomme, T.Blomme and A. Urundolil-Kumaran we have been introducing and studying a refined version of Gromov-Witten invariants for surfaces relative to an anticanonical divisor, which satisfy remarkable properties. I will introduce these invariants, explain what we have shown about them so fair and how an application of their study lead to a proof of the multiple cover formula conjecture for abelian surfaces.
