Period index questions for hyperelliptic curve

We will discuss period index questions for the 2-torsion Brauer element of smooth hyperelliptic curves over global fields k, char(k)=0. Under local triviality condition, we prove period equals index. The method also extends to prove finiteness of u-invariant of k(x). This is joint work with R. Parimala.
