Maison de la Simulation and INRIA Bordeaux, together with the Exa-DI NumPEx project organize a free Webinar about SPACK fundamentals on April 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM . SPACK (https://spack.io/) is a package manager for supercomputers, making installing scientific software easy. This webinar will cover basic commands of SPACK, listing and searching packages, package information, package creation, package installation, and external packages, providing a comprehensive introduction to using SPACK in an HPC environment. It is specifically designed for beginners and no prior knowledge is required
Objectives and Goals
- Learn how to use Spack in order to manage packages in an HPC environment
- Learning the basic commands for package installation
- Understanding the syntax used for specifications
- Installing packages by specifying a particular version, dependencies, and variants
Practical Exercises
The training includes practical exercises, which will be carried out on the Grid'5000 platform (https://www.grid5000.fr ), focusing on the installation of packages with and without dependencies, and exploring various installation variants, such as specifying different versions, compilers, and build options.
