Qu’est-ce-que la curiosité ? Quelle est son rôle dans l’apprentissage, et quelle peut être son origine au cours de l’évolution ? Je présenterai un programme de recherche qui vise à répondre à ces questions en construisant des modèles basés sur l’intelligence artificielle. Je discuterai aussi comment cela ouvre de nouvelles perspectives en intelligence artificielle, avec la mise au point de machines « autotéliques », c’est à dire de machines qui peuvent apprendre à représenter et à sélectionner leurs propres buts. Je discuterai enfin comment ces machines peuvent potentiellement s’intégrer à la culture humaine, et comment elles pourraient être des outils pour aider les enfants à apprendre,et aider les scientifiques à explorer des systèmes complexes en biologie ou en physique.
