Wojciech Kucharz (Kraków) Algebraic approximation of differentiable manifolds

Abstract. The modern approach to algebraically approximating smooth
manifolds originated in Nash's renowned 1952 work, which Tognoli
substantially improved upon in 1973. I will discuss these historical
developments alongside the subsequent work of several mathematicians
including Akbulut, King, Benedetti, and Tognoli. Most recently, Benoist
made significant progress in 2024. Building on Benoist's paper, I obtained
additional results regarding this problem. My talk will conclude with
these recent results and their applications.
