Motivated by physics, Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs) are mathematical objects of great interest, yielding to diffeomorphism invariants of manifolds and mapping class group representations. The question of whether they can detect exotic pairs in dimension 4 has raised a lot of interest. In this talk, I will introduce some famous constructions of TQFTs using skein theory, and a very recent construction in the non-semisimple case. I will discuss obstructions and possibilities for this construction to detect exotic pairs. Joint work with F. Costantino, N. Geer and B. Patureau-Mirand.
