In the first part, I will review the counting problems
related to partitions of integers in various dimensions,
their generating functions, characters, measures,
and certain generalizations that are important from combinatorial,
representation theoretic, and geometric points of view.
In the second part, I will discuss some novel applications
to the Donaldson-Thomas theory of complex three-folds and four-folds,
within the context of higher-dimensional gauge theories.
