DESCRIPTION:This short course proposal targets Master or Doctoral students
as well as\nresearchers and engineers who could be interested.\n\nIt prov
ides them with a first introduction to certain tools of algebraic geometry
and in particular the theory of positive polynomials and its dual\, the K
-moment problem.\n\nThis has many important applications not only in polyn
omial optimization but\nalso in many other areas (probability\, statistics
\, dynamical systems\, ODEs\nand PDEs). These tools have already had an im
pact in several important\napplications (e.g. in optimization\, signal pro
cessing (Super-Resolution)\,\nOptimal Design in statistics\, control\, com
putational geometry) and some\nMachine Learning applications (computer vis
ion\, tensor decomposition &\ncompletion\, dictionary learning\, mixture o
f Gaussians). In addition\, noncommutative analogues of such tools are bec
oming of crucial importance in quantum information.\n\nThe course will be
