Representation of the total variation as a $\Gamma$-limit of BMO-type seminorms

I will discuss a question raised by Ambrosio, Bourgain, Brezis, and Figalli, on the approximation of the BV-total variation by BMO-type seminorms. In this vein, I will also discuss a new Rellich-type compactness result that stems from the boundedness BMO-type seminorms. If time permits, I will also share a challenging open problem that arises naturally from the setting introduced by Ambrosio et al. This is joint work with Paolo Bonicatto and Giacomo Del Nin.
