Description
In the nineteenth century Claude-Louis Navier and George Gabriel Stokes proposed the Navier-Stokes as a model for viscous incompressible fluids such as water. The question as to whether or not the equations form singularities (which would correspond to points where the speed of the fluid increases indefinitely) remains open. In this talk, we'll first look at some of the mathematical theory around the Navier-Stokes equations before discussing a potential pathway to obtaining singularities. This is a joint work with Dallas Albritton (University of Minnesota).
