Relaxation methods, or how to use topology for minimisation

During this presentation, I will introduce the concept of minimization problems in an abstract setting, as well as some classical topological tools for addressing them: a basic acquaintance with lower semicontinuity and coercivity will be in order. We will then introduce the concept of relaxation of a functional, illustrated by a few classical examples.
