Title: Forecasting oncological treatment outcomes by means of phenotype-structured PDE models

Abstract : Heterogeneity and plasticity in individual cell behaviour are key drivers of cancer progression and represent an important obstacle to successful anti-cancer therapy and management of disease relapse. A more in-depth theoretical understanding of the impact of such phenotypic heterogeneity on therapeutic outcomes can be achieved through analysis and numerical simulation of structured-population models. In this talk, I will present a few PDE models of the nonlocal Lotka-Volterra type, which have been developed to predict therapeutic outcomes — such as the development of resistance during chemotherapy or the efficacy of adoptive cell immunotherapy — along with the efforts made to integrate experimental data in these models, in order to get closer to their applicability in clinical settings.
