DESCRIPTION:Minimal surfaces\, defined as critical points of the area func
tional\, have intrigued scientists for centuries due to their geometric be
auty and profound impact on the evolution of mathematical thought. Constru
cting embedded examples with prescribed topology is challenging\, especial
ly in ambient manifolds like the 3-sphere or the Euclidean unit ball\, whi
ch only admit unstable minimal surfaces. We will introduce different avenu
es for existence results illustrated by visual examples and outline future
  directions of research.\n\nhttps://indico.math.cnrs.fr/event/15205/
