 d Sodin shows a (short but) surprising result: if the iterates of derivati
 ves of a diffeomorphisms of the interval of class C^2 growth are subexpone
 ntial\, then it grows at most quadratic. In this talk we will discuss a st
 ronger result that asserts that the lim_n max Df^n / n^2 exists. We briefl
