DESCRIPTION: \nThematic trimester programme with short courses\, seminars
and workshops\nSeptember 14th to December 4th\, 2026 at the Institut Henr
i Poincaré\, Paris\nREGISTRATION IS FREE AND MANDATORY\nClick here to reg
ister for the trimester\nIMPORTANT WARNING:  Scam / Phishing / SMiShing
! Note that ill-intentioned people may be trying to contact some of partic
ipants by email or phone to get money and personal details\, by pretending
to be part of the staff of the conference center.  IHP and the organizer
s will NEVER contact you by phone on this issue and will NEVER ask you to
pay for accommodation/ board / possible registration fee in advance. \nDe
adline for financial support request is March 15\, 2026\nOperator algebras
are self-adjoint subalgebras of the bounded operators on a Hilbert space
and divide into two main classes: C∗-algebras and von Neumann algebras\,
according to whether one demands that they are closed in the norm topolog
y or the weak operator topology. When one first meets these algebras\, the
y might look quite similar\, but they have different natures as exemplifie
d by the commutative case: via the Gelfand transform\, abelian C∗-algebr
as are algebras of continuous functions vanishing at infinity on a locally
compact Hausdorff space\, while abelian von Neumann algebras are essentia
lly bounded measurable functions on a measure space. These flavours persis
t in general. Topological concepts such as dimension and invariants such a
s K-theory pervade the study of C∗-algebras\, while measure-theoretic st
yle methods are often used to study von Neumann algebras.\nThe long themat
ic program OA will focus on operator algebras and its still evolving inter
actions with ergodic theory\, topological dynamics\, discrete subgroups of
semisimple Lie groups\, analytic\, ergodic and geometric group theory\, q
uantum information theory and random matrices.\n \nSeptember 14th to 18th
