Description
The memory effect for Robinson-Trautman waves is explicitly worked out. In a first step, we apply the combined frame rotation and coordinate transformation that makes Robinson-Trautman waves asymptotically flat. This allows us to use well-established results on how to derive the memory effect in this context. The local mass-loss formula for the generalized mass aspect, which is shown to be manifestly positive, provides a new formulation of the Robinson-Trautman evolution equation. The no-news sector of the theory is identified with the vacuum sector of Euclidean Liouville theory.
