DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Min Tang\n\nThe Discrete Ordinates Method (DOM) is t
he most widely usedvelocity discretization method for simulating the radia
tive transportequation. However\, the ray effect is a long-standing drawba
ck of DOM. Inbenchmark tests that exhibit the ray effect\, we observe low
regularity inthe velocity variable of the solution. To address this issue\
, we introducerandomness into the velocity discretization and propose two
methods: theRandom Ordinate Method and Random Source Iteration\, to mitiga
te the rayeffect. Compared to other strategies proposed in the literature
formitigating the ray effect\, these two methods offer several advantages:
1 )the computational cost is comparable to that of DOM\; 2) they are simpl
e andrequire minimal changes to existing codes\; 3) they are easily parall
elizableand independent of the problem setup. Numerical tests demonstrate
thereduction in computational cost compared to classical methods\, as well
astheir effectiveness in mitigating the ray effect.\n\nhttps://indico.mat
